At Diamond Light we have always combined excellent technical and professional massage therapy & bodywork training with the recognition of bodywork as a sacred art. In addition to a wide range of powerfully effective bodywork modalities, we offer training in the meditative arts, helping students find the inner resources of Presence, Compassion, Awareness and Subtlety that transform an effective massage into a profoundly transformational experience. We believe that in inner state of the consciousness of the practitioner is paramount is determining the quality of any bodywork sessions and to this end we offer our students the opportunity to delve into the deepest dimensions of themselves and facilitate accelerated transformation within themselves as they learn to help others.
Our Meditation and Energy Healing class begins on April 11 in Marin County in Northern California and our Silent meditation Retreat is on September 3-5.

“I had hoped to be in a position this week to inform you that statewide certification as a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) or a Certified Massage Practitioner (CMP) would be fully ready on September 1. I still anticipate that will be the case sometime in mid-September, at which time ABMP will send by regular mail to all California practicing massage members a formal announcement, an application form, and accompanying instructions.
What is available at this time is about two-thirds of a loaf for those of you who desire to get started on the process. You may link to www.camtc.organd click on “Application for Certification,” which will permit you to download an application form and instructions. You then will be able to fill out the form, arrange for your massage school(s) to send in official copies of your transcripts, gather other supporting documents, and transmit that material to the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) along with payment.
What is missing at this point is the Live Scan fingerprinting process, which will provide the basis for a criminal background check, a helpful safeguard to distinguish you from others trying to pose as massage therapists. In charge of Live Scan procedures is the California Department of Justice (DOJ). CAMTC staff filed a preliminary application with DOJ on April 29. CAMTC filed the final required information with DOJ on July 21. On August 21 DOJ suddenly determined that it needs to make a computer programming change to accommodate CAMTC processing requirements. DOJ now says the “earliest” possible date to activate Live Scan will be September 8, with no guarantee it won’t take longer.”

he National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) announced today the release of its new online practice exam, developed to help schools prepare students for success on the National Certification Examination (NCE).
The new preparatory exam simulates the actual NCE experience, helping to reduce test-taking anxiety by familiarizing students with computer-based testing. It allows them to acquaint themselves with the format, terminology and types of questions they can expect when taking the NCE. Also, it serves as an additional learning opportunity by providing explanations for both correct and incorrect answers. The test is timed, like the NCE, and can be taken up to three times for a single $20 fee.
NCBTMB recommends partnering the online practice exam with its newly revised study guide. The study guide helps prepare candidates for the NCE by sharpening their study skills and providing sample questions and answers. The guide, reduced in price to $29.95, includes the types of questions to expect on the exam, tips for what to do before, during and after the exam, and proven test-taking strategies.
The practice exam and study guide are available for purchase on NCBTMB’s website, www.ncbtmb.org, in the Hot Topics area.
For more information about NCBTMB’s online practice exam or study guide, contact Jillian Kelly, Manager of Certification Services, at 630-652-0477 orjkelly@ncbtmb.org.
We are thrilled to have Corinna Kavanagh, a long time Bay Area Massage Instructor, teaching a class in body mechanics for massage therapists. If you find yourself tired or hurting after giving a massage, if you notice strain in your wrists, arms or back, or if you simply want to be sure to avoid injury or burnout in the future, this class is for you.
Proper posture and good body mechanics are essential to maintaining energy and muscle integrity while giving massage. In this class you will learn techniques that will not only improve your posture during massage, but enable you to work more effortlessly, maintain stamina, prevent carpal tunnel and massage related injury and perform more massage and still feel refreshed and relaxed. A great class for beginning CMT’s as well as massage veterans.
Class will be Tuesday evenings, December 1 & 8, 2009 and tuition is $110. Visit www.diamondlight.net to register or call us at 415-454-6651
