The Tim Bresenden Memorial Scholarship is offered as a tribute to a man who committed his life to serving his family, friends and the greater community by acting as a peacemaker and bridge-builder to bring together people from all walks of life. This award will be given to one individual each year who aspires to and exemplifies this spirit of being a positive force of healing in their communities.

The Tim Bresenden Memorial scholarship includes: airfare, lodging, and 54 hours of NCBTMB Category A continued education units during a week long Lomi Lomi Intensive Retreat offered October 21-28, 2011 on the island of Maui. We have attached a video illuminating this transformational experience.

Requirements for Scholarship eligibility:
LONG ESSAY (One Page): “Describe an event or person that has been a positive source of healing in your own life that has shaped you to be the person you are.

GOALS: Please list three goals that you have for yourself and explain why they are important to you. How do you feel that this experience will enrich your vision for attaining these goals.

ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM What do you do when you are not in class? For the past three years, what activities have you participated in at school, your community, or home? List five (at least 3 should be outside your employment) of the most significant for time commitment and value to your school, community, and/or family. Describe your involvement and positions held.

Latest Update on California MT Certification Process

“I had hoped to be in a position this week to inform you that statewide certification as a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT) or a Certified Massage Practitioner (CMP) would be fully ready on September 1. I still anticipate that will be the case sometime in mid-September, at which time ABMP will send by regular mail to all California practicing massage members a formal announcement, an application form, and accompanying instructions.

What is available at this time is about two-thirds of a loaf for those of you who desire to get started on the process. You may link to www.camtc.org and click on “Application for Certification,” which will permit you to download an application form and instructions. You then will be able to fill out the form, arrange for your massage school(s) to send in official copies of your transcripts, gather other supporting documents, and transmit that material to the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) along with payment.

What is missing at this point is the Live Scan fingerprinting process, which will provide the basis for a criminal background check, a helpful safeguard to distinguish you from others trying to pose as massage therapists. In charge of Live Scan procedures is the California Department of Justice (DOJ). CAMTC staff filed a preliminary application with DOJ on April 29. CAMTC filed the final required information with DOJ on July 21. On August 21 DOJ suddenly determined that it needs to make a computer programming change to accommodate CAMTC processing requirements. DOJ now says the “earliest” possible date to activate Live Scan will be September 8, with no guarantee it won’t take longer.”

NCBTMB INTRODUCES NEW ONLINE PRACTICE EXAM

he National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) announced today the release of its new online practice exam, developed to help schools prepare students for success on the National Certification Examination (NCE).

The new preparatory exam simulates the actual NCE experience, helping to reduce test-taking anxiety by familiarizing students with computer-based testing. It allows them to acquaint themselves with the format, terminology and types of questions they can expect when taking the NCE. Also, it serves as an additional learning opportunity by providing explanations for both correct and incorrect answers. The test is timed, like the NCE, and can be taken up to three times for a single $20 fee.

NCBTMB recommends partnering the online practice exam with its newly revised study guide. The study guide helps prepare candidates for the NCE by sharpening their study skills and providing sample questions and answers. The guide, reduced in price to $29.95, includes the types of questions to expect on the exam, tips for what to do before, during and after the exam, and proven test-taking strategies.

The practice exam and study guide are available for purchase on NCBTMB’s website, www.ncbtmb.org, in the Hot Topics area.
